Cabela’s King Kat returning in 2016

The Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail will hit lakes Marion and Moultrie from Feb. 20-21. This is the opportunity for local catfish anglers to compete for cash, prizes and a chance to advance to the Cabela’s King Kat North and South Championship. This year’s North Championship will be held Sept. 23-24 on the Ohio River in Henderson, Kentucky. The South Championship will be held Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 on Lake Cumberland at Gallatin, Tennessee. Both sites contain new and exciting information about the trail’s events, along with special information for catfish anglers everywhere Late registration will be held from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 19, the day before competition begins, at Manning High School, 2155 Paxville Highway in Manning. The Captains’ meeting and seminar will follow at 7 p.m. that day. You must be a member of the King Kat Association to fish this event. A one-year membership is $25. Land III Landing, 4404 Greenall Road in Summerton. Tournament hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. All anglers must be in weigh-in line by 4 p.m., with a five-fish limit per team. Saturday’s tournament will also feature the Cabela’s King Kat Kids event, which features a free kids fishing rodeo. The event is free of charge and open to all youth 12 and younger. Sign-up will be from 8-9 a.m. that day, and the event will be held from 9-11 a.m. All children will receive a prize just for entering. They are encouraged to bring their favorite rods, reels and baits to show their true fishing ability. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All participants are eligible for a chance to win one of six $1,000 Outdoor Promotions scholarships which will be awarded in October. Outdoor Promotions and King Kat anglers have contributed nearly $328,000 to the Kids Scholarships since 1997. “We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Outdoor Promotions Kids Fishing Rodeos,” said a release from the King Kat Tournament Trail staff.
