Fishing Report: Lakes Marion and Moultrie

The state Department of Transportation released Friday the following fishing report for the Santee Cooper lakes, Marion and Moultrie, which cover Clarendon, Sumter, Calhoun, Orangeburg and Berkeley counties. Largemouth bass were reported slow to fair. Guide Linwood Thornhill reports that a pretty good bass bite survived the first flood, but the second round of flooding seems to have really slowed the action down. It also doesn’t help the fishing that the weather can’t make up its mind whether it wants to be summer or winter. SWANSEA – Joseph Houston Mincey, 27, of Swansea, died Friday, Dec. 25, 2015. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2015, at Sardis Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dean Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 p.m., for viewing until the hour of services. Secrist named 2015 Officer of the Year

A native of West Virginia, 28-year-old W.B. Secrist was voted Manning Police Officer of the Year this week by his peers at the department. It was not his only distinction from the department or City of Manning in 2015. He received the Medal of Valor in April 2015 after a car chase a month earlier led to injury and a hospital visit. Secrist and two other officers – one a deputy from the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office – responded to a call outside Lamar’s Country Corner, and four suspects took off in a vehicle. Man awaiting outcome of hearing on armed robbery conviction

A Vance man sentenced in 2009 to 22 years in prison for armed robbery is awaiting the result of a hearing held in mid-November to contest his legal representation during his guilty plea six years ago. Marco Andre Clark, formerly of 127 Gallery Lane in Vance, is currently serving his sentence at Kirkland Correctional Institution in Columbia. He was originally reported by the state Attorney General’s Office to have had a hearing before a Circuit Court Judge on post-conviction relief in July. Stefani Welch Henshaw has found this dog, which looks to be a full-blooded pitbull, in the Plowden Mill Road area in Alcolu. The dog showed up in her yard, and looks to have escaped from a chain, part of which is still attached to the canine. Born Nov. 4, 1931, in Alcolu, she was the daughter of the late Mary Alderman Dobson. She and Lu lived in Sumter and North Myrtle Beach for most of their 64 years of marriage.
