James F. Hampton, 67, husband of Odessa Budden Hampton, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015.
Born on July 15, 1948, in Pinewood, he was a son of the late Rev. Powell Sr. and Rosa Odell Green Hampton. He was a 1969 graduate of Manchester High School. He was employed by Yuasa-Exide, Enersys and Sumter Packaging companies. He was a member of Antioch RMUE Church.

SUMMERTON – Funeral services for Orilee B. Turner, 90, will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Chapel of Dyson’s Home for Funerals, 237 Main St., Summerton. Final resting place will be in Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Summerton.
Mrs. Turner died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015.

Kent’s bikes get “Made in USA” label

Bikes rolling out of Kent International’s Bicycle Corporation of America factory will be badged “Made in USA with domestic and imported parts” according to a recent ruling by U.S. Customs. Previously the bikes were labeled “Assembled in USA with parts made in China.”
“I’m very excited about Custom’s ruling. I don’t think customers are willing to pay 20 or 30 percent more to buy a ‘Made in USA’ bike, but I think they will when it’s only 10 percent more,” said Arnold Kamler, chairman and CEO of Kent International.

Summerton to hold huge yard sale

MT. PLEASANT – Renee Cousar Benefield, 56, wife of Douglas Glass Benefield, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at her home.
Born Sept. 19, 1959, in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late William Douglas Cousar and the late Eve Witherspoon Blackwell Cousar. She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church where she volunteered with the children’s ministry. Renee was a loving mother and a devoted wife.

Janie Lee Welch, 69, widow of Roland McDowell Welch, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at her home.
Born Dec. 9, 1945, in Turbeville, she was a daughter of the late William Melton Welch Sr. and Susanna Floyd Welch. She was a member of New Testament Lighthouse Church. She loved the Lord and her church.

James F. Hampton, husband of Odessa Budden Hampton, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at his home.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 2910 Ervin Lane in Sumter.

Prayer in the times of mountaintops and valleys

I can still remember the day that I fully gave my life to Jesus Christ. It was on Sept. 22, 1983. I had just turned 18 and was attending a Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting at Presbyterian College. That day, one of my teammates — JR — held an altar call. Something was different. I went down, got on my knees and prayed. I told God about my greatest need. I needed for Him to love me unconditionally, accept me and guide me the way a father does.

MPD seeks suspect for unsolved January burglary

The Manning Police Department is looking for the public’s help in finding a suspect responsible for the January burglary of a local business.
Inv. Rick Elms said police were hoping a DNA profile would provide a suspect for the burglary of Palmetto Cash Express, which happened in the early morning hours of Jan. 22. But results were inconclusive.
“This involved a lot of damage to the business, but the suspect did not get any money,” Elms said. “We are hoping someone will recognize the individual from surveillance footage and call it in.”
