COLUMBIA – Kevin Belser, 58, entered eternal rest on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, in Columbia. Born Nov. 5, 1957, in Philadelphia, he was the son of James P. Belser Sr. and Elma Conyers Belser.

Lawrence Wilbert Green Sr.

Lawrence Wilbert Green Sr., 68, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2015, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born Feb. 18, 1947, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Ben Tillman and Elizabeth Gaymon Green. He was the husband of Gardenia Johnson Green.
The family will receive friends at home, 2480 Drayton-McKnight Road in Pinewood.


Lady Swampcats defeat MB Christian

The Laurence Manning Academy Lady Swampcats defeated Myrtle Beach Christian on Saturday, 48-32. Brooke Bennett led the team with 18 points, while Courtney Beatson had 15. Sarah Fraser had eight points. Olivia Wilson had four, and Kaela Johnson had three.


LMA players play in All Star game

LMA players Tripp Mason, Olin Robinson and Rashad Green-Younger played Saturday in the South Carolina Independent School Association All-Star game held in Orangeburg.


Virginia’s Pride plants tree in honor of Jean Mahoney

The Virginia’s Pride Garden Club of Manning planted a tree Friday at the Clarendon County Council on Aging in memory of Jean Mahoney to celebrate Arbor Day. Mahoney was a hard-working member of the club for many years and is greatly missed by her fellow members. She and her husband worked hard to establish the Carolina Fence in 2001. Her family was also present for the planting.


Anthony Howard Sherman

Anthony Howard “Amp” Sherman, 50, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, from injuries received in an auto wreck. His wife, Donna Tisdale Sherman also died in the wreck.
Mr. Sherman was born May 16, 1965 in Clarendon County, a son of the late Joseph Herman and Sarah Frances Bridwell Sherman. He was a graduate of Manning High School and was the owner/manager of a Firestone retail store in North Carolina. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Manning.

Hole-in-One: Al Colclough

Turbeville farmer seeking petition signatures today at ECMHS

Turbeville farmer Jeremy Cannon will be taking signatures on a petition Sunday afternoon to get more federal and state aid for South Carolina farmers for damages incurred by October’s devastating flooding. He will be at the East Clarendon Middle-High School cafeteria from 2-4 p.m. Sunday.

Virginia Ellisor Pegram

ALCOLU – Virginia Ellisor Pegram, 88, widow of Robert Alvin Pegram Sr., formerly of Walnut Cove, North Carolina, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at the home of her son.
Born June 22, 1927, in Port St. Joe, Forida, she was the daughter of the late Adam Grant Ellisor and Ida Weathers Ellisor. She was retired from Rockingham County School System after 25 years of service, serving in the Reidsville City Schools. She was a longtime member of Fulp Moravian Church.

Lady Swampcats defeat Trinity Byrnes

Courtney Beatson led the Lady Swampcats on Friday night in a 46-29 win against Trinity Byrnes. Brooke Bennett also had 12 points, while Sarah Fraser had four, Cora Downer and Olivia Wilson each had two, and Taylor Lea and Kaela Johnson each had one.


Helicopter landing to take injured wreck victim to McLeod

A medical helicopter is landing in downtown Manning to help take one of the victims of a wreck on S.C. 260 get to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. Extent of injuries is unknown at this time.

Clarendon County first responders have been called to a wreck with injuries in the area of S.C. 260 and McDowell Street. Traffic may be slower during this time. Manninglive.com will have an update if injuries are fatal or life-threatening. The Clarendon County Fire Department, the Sheriff’s Office and EMS have all been called to the wreck.


3 arrested after late-night chase, manhunt

An otherwise routine speeding stop late Friday night turned into a chase, an early morning manhunt and ended with three arrests Saturday morning.
Sheriff Randy Garrett said Kevin Mack will be charged with failure to stop for blue light, and that two other suspects were also arrested after a deputy attempted to stop Mack on Bloomville Road.
“Deputies chased them by car all the way to the end of Bloomville Road at Raccoon Road,” Garrett said. “The three jumped out, and it turned into a foot chase. Two of the suspects were caught within an hour-and-a-half.”
