Council looks at tax agreement with industry planning 26 jobs, $2.6M investment

Clarendon County Council members approved Monday an initial agreement with a still-secret industry which could bring 26 jobs and a $2.6 million investment to the area.
Clarendon County Development Board Executive Director George Kosinski said details on the project, currently known as Project StarTrak, will hopefully be available to the public by the first quarter of 2016.
According to South Carolina law, public entities like County Council may enter into fee-in-lieu-of-taxes agreements with industries, keeping the details secret until the agreements are approved by three readings and a public hearing and then by the proposed company.

Wanda Evelyn Hardee Floyd, 59, wife of John Michael “Mike” Floyd, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.
Born Oct 24, 1956, in Hialeah, Florida, she was a daughter of the late Elliott Ward Hardee Sr. and Myrtle Elizabeth Bradshaw Hardee. She was a member of Little Star Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Cecil Hudson Wilson Jr., age 81, beloved husband of Margie Young Wilson, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Cecil Wilson was born March 4, 1934 in Sumter, and was a son of the late Cecil Hudson Wilson Sr. and Alma Steinmeyer Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a Korean War veteran who served in the United States Navy. After his service in the Navy, Cecil worked for more than 34 years with General Telephone until he retired. After retirement from GTE, Cecil obtained his captain’s license and worked as a boat captain for Eagle Tours at Santee State Park. … Read the rest

GREELEYVILLE – John “Frank” Mishoe, 50, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, at Tidelands Hospice House in Georgetown.
Born Sept. 22, 1965, in Kingstree, he was a son of John Rodgers Mishoe Jr. and Sandra Holley Mishoe. He played football for Newberry College and Charleston Southern University. He was the owner and operator of Lowcountry Brokers LLC, and he was a member of Greeleyville United Methodist Church.

Emma Lee Dingle Robinson, 78, wife of Nathaniel Robinson died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Countrywood Nursing Home in Hopkins.
Born May 1, 1937, in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late Julian Dingle and Louise Bell Richburg Dingle.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at St. Matthews AME Church in Summerton, with the Rev. Robert K. Carter, pastor, presiding, and eulogy provided by the Rev. Mary Rhodes.
Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.

Expensive flood-related damage is not always evident immediately, and officials with the Small Business Administration are urging South Carolina residents to get in their applications for relief sooner rather than later.
The deadline to apply for loan benefits has been extended to Jan. 4.
“Survivors of South Carolina’s October heavy rains and severe floods may be unaware of issues that might show up in their homes or businesses in the weeks or months after the flood,” said Adrienne Laneave.
These include:
Malfunctions to furnaces or other expensive appliances not in use during the flood;
Home foundation settling; and

Born Tuesday Feb. 27, 1940, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Frank Roary and Mammie Mack.

Donations collected by NC students delivered to SC school districts

GASTONIA, North Carolina – A month-long campaign by a North Carolina school district raised $25,000 for school districts in Clarendon and Williamsburg counties.
The Nickels 4 Neighbors campaign culminated Nov. 19 after its start Oct. 14 in reaction to devastating flooding in central and eastern South Carolina.
All three Clarendon districts received $5,000, according to Gaston County Board of Education Chairman Kenneth R. Lutz Jr. and Superintendent of Schools W. Jeffrey Booker, who presented the funds to representatives from those districts last week. The Williamsburg County School District also received a donation of $10,000.

SUMMERTON – Larry Herbert Lee, 72, husband of Lynda Pugh Lee, died Saturday, December 5, 2015, at his home.

Born May 30, 1943, in McBee, he was the son of the late Sam Herbert Lee and the late Kate Knight Lee. He was a US Air Force veteran and a member of the SC Aerial Applicator Association. Larry was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who led a 30 plus year career in crop dusting by way of his company, Lee’s Flying Service. He took pride in helping others and leaves a legacy of commitment, hardwork and respect.
