Jean Deyorio Smith

Jean Deyorio Smith, 69, formerly of Turbeville and Irmo, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2016, at her home in Tampa, Florida.

Born in Manchester, Connecticut, she moved to Tampa as a child. She received a bachelor's degree at the University of South Florida and worked as an elementary school teacher in Tampa for almost 30 years. She worked at Lake Murray Gymnastics, and enjoyed volunteering, gardening and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hugh Smith of Turbeville, and their infant son.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer (Steven) Luhrsen; two sons, Jeffrey (Laura) Smith and Joseph (Laura) Smith; eight grandchildren, Amanda (Justin) Robinson, Catherine Luhrsen, Grace (Michael) Baron, Benjamin Luhrsen, Drew Smith, Riley Smith, Reese Nichols and J.J. Smith; a great-granddaughter, Syklar Baron; a sister, Patricia Mixon; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015, at Floyd Funeral Home, 136 E. Main St. in Olanta.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church cemetery, 1090 Morgan St. in Turbeville.
