Mosquitoes causing problems for Clarendon residents

Manning Mayor Julia Nelson said Thursday that city crews would start spraying for mosquitoes by the weekend.
The little buggers have increased tremendously since the recent 1,000-year flood, and the state Department of Health and Environmental Control is offering residents tips to reduce breeding grounds and deal with the critters.
County officials have advised residents attending the Team South Carolina event Monday hosted by Gov. Nikki Haley to bring up the need for extra mosquito spraying in the area.

Wreck with injuries at Black River, Cousar roads

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a wreck with injuries in the area of Black River and Cousar roads. Manninglive.com will have an update if injuries are life-threatening or fatal. Traffic may be slower in the area.


Victor Brogdon

Victor Eugene Brogdon, 45, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation of North Charleston.

Born in Manning, he was a son of Allard M. Brogdon III and the late Polly Culick Brogdon. He was a member of Clarendon Baptist Church and was formerly employed at State Tree Service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Operation Desert Storm.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Joyce Brogdon; two sons, Blaze Brogdon and Jobe Brogdon, both of Hendersonville, North Carolina; a brother, Al Brogdon (Becky) of Sumter; a sister, Connie Wolfe (Robert) of Sumter; and a number of nieces, … Read the rest

Charles David Truett, 74, husband of Janice Charlene Williams Truett, died Friday, October 23, 2015, at his home.

Born July 29, 1941, in Darlington, he was a son of the late Otis Truett and the late Mamie Lee Howle Curley. He was a retired truck driver, an avid fisherman, he loved raising chickens and he was of the Baptist faith.

Residents affected by flood available for food assistance

South Carolina residents who lost property or income due to this month’s historic flooding are eligible for temporary food assistance.
The state Department of Social Services announced Friday that people living in 20 counties affected by the disaster can apply for debit-like cards that can be used to buy food at grocery stores and other retailers.
People can apply beginning Tuesday through Dec. 3.
Applicants must show they suffered unreimbursed losses in the disaster, such as damage or destruction to their home or lost wages.

Shuler Meats recalls turkey products packaged without inspection

Shuler Meats, a Thomasville, N.C. establishment, is recalling approximately 25,920 pounds of turkey products that were reconditioned without the benefit of FSIS inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The fully cooked smoked turkey legs were produced from Nov. 24, 2014, through May 4, 2015. The following products are subject to recall:
648 – 40 lb. (approximate weight) plastic-lined cardboard boxes containing frozen turkey legs with the labels: “Shuler Meats, Co.” and “Belmont Meats, Co.”

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a wreck with a deer in the southbound lanes at the 115 mile-marker on Interstate 95. No human injuries are reported.
