Shelters open at Manning, Summerton, Turbeville schools

Shelters are open at Manning High School, Scott’s Branch High School and East Clarendon High School.

Folks making best of it at shelter

Video provided by Pete Surette of people making the best of it at the Manning High School shelter. Surette said that a bus from Maine initially stopped at the shelter, but decided to try and make it to Columbia. Authorities state that all roads in and out of Clarendon County are either flooded or washed away. Folks traveling from out of state on Interstate 95 who are directed into Clarendon County will have to seek shelter at Scott’s Branch High School, Manning High School or East Clarendon High School. There are no hotel rooms left in Manning.


Library to remain closed Monday

The Harvin Clarendon County Library will remain closed Monday. No fines will be levied on overdue books.

Manning IGA, Piggly Wiggly, Dollar Generals and Family Dollars are closed this morning due to heavy rains.


LMA announces Monday closure

Laurence Manning Academy will be closed Monday. The school will evaluate the situation Monday and make a decision about Tuesday.


Roy Tedder Jr. funeral postponed

Due to inclement weather, funeral services for Roy Tedder Jr. scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, has been postponed until further notice.
Roy Tedder Jr., 56, husband of Peggy Jean Griffin Tedder, died Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at MUSC in Charleston.
Born November 30, 1958, in Myrtle Beach, he was the son of Emilie Parker and the late Roy Tedder, Sr. He was a former employee of Exide Battery in Sumter.
He is survived by his wife and his mother; a son, Remington Tedder (Amy); a daughter, Hollie Waters (Mikey); five grandsons, Noah, Nathan, Eli, Gauge and Wesson; … Read the rest

Paxville water line broken

Manning Mayor Julia Nelson has announced that a water line between Paxville and Manning is currently broken, and is now allowing customers in Paxville to receive water. It is being worked out, but will take a few hours.


Clarendon 1 announces school closings

Roads out of Clarendon County impassable

Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett said just now that roads leading out of Clarendon County are now impassable. He advises residents to remain off the roads.
He said the county is currently working with the state Department of Natural Resources to get folks from submerged homes with five boats. Garrett said the National Guard is on the way.


Curfew declared for Clarendon County

Clarendon County has declared a curfew for Clarendon County from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly through Wednesday. Please adhere to this curfew and stay off the roads.
