SUMTER – Bennie Fallie Cantey, 75, husband of Bertie Mildred Prescott Cantey, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 22, 1940, in New Zion, he was a son of the late Fallie Tharp Cantey and Lillian Epps Cantey. He was a former member of the Manning Rescue Squad, he was a greens keeper for Santee Cooper Golf Club and he was an elder at Midway Presbyterian Church.

Survivors besides his wife of 54 years include two sons, Ray Cantey (Sandra) of Manning and Steve Cantey (Michelle) of Blythewood; seven grandchildren, Amy Duke (Jason), Heather Cantey, Raelyn Tidwell (Christopher), R.J. Cantey, Colby Cantey, Austin Cantey and Emily Cantey; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Landon and Kinslee Duke; two sisters, Catherine Rodgers of Kingstree and Sybil Parrott of Sandy Bay; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton Cantey and Wallace Cantey.

A funeral service for Bennie Fallie Cantey will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Lowder officiating. Burial will follow in Brunson Cemetery.

John Richardson, Brian Gamble, Richard Barwick, William Scott, Lindy Cantey and George Tschorn will serve as pallbearers. LeGrande Cantey will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m., prior to the services, at Stephens Funeral Home, and other times at the home, 3565 Tearcoat Branch Road in Sumter.
