A 46-year-old Manning man wanted for allegedly shoplifting from Sumter's Walmart was arrested by Manning police about 12:15 p.m. Oct. 14 and charged with resisting arrest and interfering with police. Maurice Albert Hunter, 56, of 915 Berry St. in Manning, allegedly was spotted by police turning onto his street after a BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued about 11:34 a.m. that day for a car owned by Hunter which was wanted by the Sumter Police Department for an alleged shoplifting incident at the Walmart there. According to reports, Hunter ignored police requests and jumped back in his vehicle, slamming the door on police. He then put the vehicle in drive and "pushed the gas pedal so hard it spun big ruts in the road and threw gravel everywhere," reports read. Police deployed a TASER, but it had no effect. Hunter was ordered out of the vehicle by use of an officer's duty weapon, and Hunter finally surrendered, was handcuffed in the rear and placed in the patrol vehicle. He was taken to Clarendon County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of resisting and interfering with police, and placed on hold with the Sumter Police Department.
