COLUMBIA - Mazie Lee Thompson York died Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at Providence Hospital in Columbia.

Forn Jan. 20, 1932, in the Bloomville community of Manning, she was a daughter of the late Joe Thompson Sr. and Rebecca Wells Thompson.

At an early age, she joined Mt. Sinai Holiness Church in the Bloomville community. She later joined Holly Hill Missionary Baptist Church in the Bloomville community, where she served faithfully for many years as Sunday school superintendent, adult Sunday school teacher, Missionary Society president and Senior Choir secretary.

She was employed with Clarendon School District 2, retiring after nearly 28 years of service.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late William York, a union that was blessed with 15 children.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Eddie York and Willie York; and a great-grandson, Warren Kindell.

Survivors include a son, Raymond (Diane) York of Manning; 12 daughters, Lottie Mae Mack of Thomasville, North Carolina, Laura York Plowden, Carrie York, Cynthia (Johnnie) York Pearson, Rachel (Michael) York Abraham and Betty York, all of Manning, York Sejour of Bowie, Maryland, and Helen York, Evelyn (Mack) York Edwards, Priscilla York Pee, Katherine York and Christine (Michael) York Gibson, all of Columbia; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca York of Manning; three brothers, James (Dorothy) Thompson and Henry Lee (Annie Mae) Thompson, both of Manning, and Joe Thompson Jr. of Sumter; a sister, Loretta Graves of Pittsville. Virginia; four stepsisters, Willie Mae Pringle of Manning, Alice (Eugene) Watson and Annie Dell Jackson, both of Sumter, and Lillian Wilson of Brooklyn, New York; 26 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services for Mazie Lee Thompson York will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Manning High School, 2155 Paxville Highway in Manning, with the Rev. O'Donald Dingle bringing words of consolation. Interment will follow in Scarborough Cemetery.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, in the chapel of Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 2102 Mallette Road in the Sugar Hill community of Clarendon County.
