A Manning man and four Manning women are spending some time at the Clarendon County Detention Center Sunday night for their alleged roles in the shooting of a 36-year-old Davis Station man. Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett said Ramell Akeem Thompson of 2109 Mallett Road in Manning will be charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violence crime. Thompson is accused of shooting Wilbert Hammett, 36, of 6432 Moses Dingle Road, during an argument at a home in the 2800 block of Mallett Road about 11:32 a.m. Sunday. "We received a call about a shooting in the Sugar Hill community," Garrett said. "The victim was found lying in the middle of the road." Maj. Kipp Coker said that the argument and shooting took place in front of the home at 2815 Mallett Road. Coker said law enforcement is still investigating the incident. "Witnesses said that a white Honda Accord left the scene," Garrett said. "We knew there was a male shooter with several females in the vehicle." Garrett said the vehicle was spotted about 1 p.m. Sunday going off Kenwood Drive near the dam going up S.C. 260 toward Manning. "We brought in the Florence County Sheriff's Office helicopter, and we made a felony car stop," Garrett said. The stop led to a traffic back-up on both lanes of S.C. 260, which manninglive.com posted about earlier. "We know that it was an inconvenience, but that way we could eliminate anyone being in danger," Garrett said. "We were concerned there could be a shootout." Four women with Thompson were taken into custody at the scene. Thompson fled to a nearby home, called Clarendon County dispatchers and said he would turn himself in. "He came out with his hands up, without incident," Garrett said. Garrett said Hammett was flown to a nearby hospital, and described the victim's shape as "pretty bad." Kipp said the four women with Thompson will be charged with accessory after the fact to a felony. They included Michele Sahara Mack, 25, of 1238 Sweet Pea Lane in Manning; Rosemary Payne, 52, 2109 Mallett Road; Shanika Sharay Thompson, 32, of 2109 Mallett Road; and Dorothy Thompson, 60, of 1098 Marlow Drive.
