Joseph N. Bannister, 86, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at his home in Brooklyn, New York.

Born Sunday, Sept. 15, 1929, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Harrison Bannister and Lou Flora Bannister.

Survivors include his children, Stanley Bannister, Cherylann Bannister and Harrison (Buck) Bannister; two brothers, James Bannister and Isaac Bannister; a sister, Rebecca Simmon; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Bannister and Eartha Bannister; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at Friendship AME Church, 6156 Furse Road in Silver, with the Rev. Albert Thompson, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A public viewing will be held 1-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, in the chapel of King-Fields Mortuary.

Mr. Bannister will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday, for viewing until the hour of service.

The family will receive friends at the home of his niece, Sallie Benbow, 1245 Lincoln St. in Summerton.
