The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a wreck with no injuries at the 123 mile-marker in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95.

For years, the spooktacular story of the noisy ghost from Paxville has been passed down from generation to generation. The story starts a long time ago, when Paxville was Packsland and Clarendon wasn’t a county. King George III of England gave land to the town’s three earliest settlers, Daniel Kelly from Ireland, Joseph Pack from England and a Mr. Bird from Scotland.

SUMMERTON – Helen Elizabeth Hanley Lowery, 93, widow of William P. Boovey and Brutus Augustus Lowery, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at The Willows at Meadow Branch in Winchester, Virginia. Born May 18, 1922, in Jersey City, New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late Bernard Michael Hanley and Grace Helen Kunze Hanley. At the age of 21, she joined the U.S. Navy and became a WAVE, serving in World War II. She rose to the rank of chief petty officer. She was married to the late William P. Boovey from 1947 to 1953. Susan Hampton Richardson, 87, widow of Henry Richardson Sr., died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter. Born Dec. 5, 1932, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Johnny Hampton Sr. and Emma McConico Hampton. She attended the public schools of Sumter County. She was employed as a certified nursing assistant with National Healthcare in Sumter. She joined Greater St. Phillip RMUE Church and was a member of the missionary ministry. Hospital to hold free nutrition class Nov. 9

Clarendon Memorial Hospital will host a free nutrition class from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 9 in the in-service classroom by the cafeteria. The class will cover healthy nutrition for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and weight loss. It will be led by Director of Food and Nutrition Services Caroline Thompson, a registered and licensed dietitian. No registration is required and it is free for everyone. Bond denied for man charged with Turbeville’ man’s death at Lake City nighclub

Bond has been denied for a 29-year-old Florence man charged with the murder of a 47-year-old Turbeville man. Tommy William McGee, 29, of Florence, will have to wait at least 45 days before he can seek another bond hearing before a Circuit Court judge. He is accused of the death of Turbeville resident James. E. Welch at a nightclub on John Street in Lake City early Wednesday morning. Welch died after being transferred by EMS to a local hospital, Florence Coroner Keith von Lutcken said. He said an autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital.

ALCOLU – Dora Mae Gadson Blanding, 87, widow of Robert James Blanding Sr., died Monday morning, Oct. 26, 2015, at her home. Born April 28, 1928, in Darlington, she was a daughter of the late Lionel and Mary McKever Gadson. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Anna Lou Ramsey, Geneva Gadson, Mary Jane Gadson, Maggie Preston and Maybell Cochran. She attended the public schools of Clarendon County.
