Sumter man killed on way home from Clarendon County

A Sumter man headed from Manning was killed about 6:18 p.m. Wednesday on Old Manning Road after a head-on wreck. Sumter County Coroner Harvin Bullock said Zachary D. Secor, 28, of Sumter, was driving a pick-up truck from Clarendon County toward Sumter on Old Georgetown/Manning Road. After just crossing the Sumter-Clarendon county line, Secor’s truck hit a vehicle head-on. Bullock said the S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the details of the wreck. Information about the specifics related to the wreck were not immediately available Wednesday night. Wreck blocking road on Old Manning Road

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a wreck at the intersection of Old Manning Road and Twelve Bridges Road over the county line in Sumter. The road is completely blocked.

Man seeking new trial on robbery conviction

A Vance man sentenced in 2009 to 22 years in prison for armed robbery is awaiting the result of a hearing held in July to contest his legal representation during his guilty plea six years ago. Marco Andre Clark, formerly of 127 Gallery Lane in Vance, is currently serving his sentence at Kirkland Correctional Institution in Columbia. Clark was arrested Dec. 4, 2008, along with Holly Hill resident Alvin LaTroy and Vance resident Leo LaMont Zene. He was charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Dianne Montgomery Kelly, 61, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at her home. Born Dec. 2, 1953, in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Willie Lee and Elloree Montgomery Lowery. The family will receive friends at 4060 Relief Road in Alcolu. Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced later by Job’s Mortuary Inc. of Sumter.

Tindal to meet with District 2 residents Saturday

Clarendon School District 2 Superintendent John Tindal will hold Saturday with the Superintendent from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Tindal will be at the district office, 15 Major Drive in Manning, during this four-hour period to make himself available to anyone in the district or community who would like to speak with him. Manning Mayor Julia Nelson will make herself available from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 10 to city residents and business owners at City Hall to provide an opportunity for the public to express their concerns and ideas regarding the city of Manning. 13 crowned at Little Miss Teen Miss Sumter and Manning pageant

The Little Miss Teen Miss Sumter and Manning preliminary pageant was held Saturday at Kingsbury Elementary School in Sumter. Winners will compete at the 2016 Little Miss Teen Miss South Carolina Pageant in Hartsville in July. Contestants and the pageant have raised more than $245,000 for Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital since partnering with them in 2002. Karen Smith Green, 49, wife of Lawrence Green, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at her home. Born Dec. 22, 1965, in Manning, she was a daughter of Estelle Way Smith Wells and the late Arthur Smith, and stepdaughter of the late Robert “Bobby” Wells. MANNING – Nellie Jean Kinsey Black, 78, a woman of courage and a servant of God, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at her home in Manning, after a valiant fight against ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband of nearly 60 years, James Cleveland “Jim” Black, and family. Born Jan. 10, 1937, in Ehrhardt, “Nell,” as she was affectionately known, began working at a young age in her father’s mercantile, Farmer’s Trade Store. She graduated from Ehrhardt High School, was Miss Ehrhardt in 1954 and she was a stand-out basketball player having helped her team win the state championship… Read the rest
