A bond hearing is pending for a 24-year-old man charged with felony DUI resulting in death for his alleged role in a wreck Sunday afternoon that killed a 26-year-old Manning man. Shawn Nelson, 24, of 1276 Sammy Nelson Road in Alcolu, was allegedly the driver of a 2006 Cadillac that left the right side of Plowden Mill Road near Spigner Road about 1:35 p.m. Sunday, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Hannah Wimberly. The vehicle hit a culvert and overturned. A front seat passenger received "unknown injuries," Wimberly said. Nelson was transported to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence for unspecified injuries. Matthew David, whose last known address was given as Bloomville Road in Manning by Clarendon County Deputy Coroner Bucky Mock, died at the scene of the wreck after being ejected from the vehicle. He was a backseat passenger. Wimberly said David was not wearing a seatbelt. Clarendon County Detention Center Director Shelton Hughes said Nelson was charged Thursday with one count of felony DUI resulting in death. He said a bond hearing could be held later this afternoon. It is unknown at this time if Nelson has an attorney. UPDATE: Alcolu man denied bond in alleged felony DUI
