The Manning Police Department arrested a 30-year-old Summerton man June 20 at a store in the first bloc of Sunset Drive in Manning after he allegedly admitted to stealing a plastic container of Ruth's chicken salad valued at $2.99. According to reports, the man, who had no prior shoplifting arrests, placed the package in his front right pants pocket, and the store manager allegedly spotted the theft. The manager asked the suspect about the container, and the suspect allegedly said he didn't realize his card had no money on it. Police reported that the suspect already had a ticket earlier for drinking in public after they received a 911 call of a male passed out on the sidewalk and finding him with a 12-ounce half-drank Budweiser. The suspect was placed on trespass notice for the store.
