One pilot was ejected and another is missing after a reported crash between an F-16 and a Cessna over Berkeley County. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the F-16 and a small personal aircraft collided near Moncks Corner, according to The Island Packet of Hilton Head. Spokesman Jim Peters said the wreck took place about 11 a.m. Tuesday, 11 miles north of Charleston, near Lewisfield Plantation. A witness called WCBD-2, a TV station in Charleston, to report a ball of fire in the air as the aircraft collided. The Berkeley County Fire Department reported that the F-16 pilot ejected from his plane; authorities are searching for the pilot. Department officials said the fuselage of the Cessna was located in water, and a rescue swimmer was sent in to search for the pilot, along with the U.S. Coast Guard. The S.C. Air National Guard told The State that the F-16 is not one of its planes.
