KINGSTREE – Troy Madison McKenzie, 76, husband of Barbara “Bunny” Taylor McKenzie, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at his home. Funeral services were held Friday, July 24, 2015, at Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial followed at Smith Cemetery, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. Born Aug. 21, 1938, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late William Madison “Pomp” McKenzie and Camilla Bryant McKenzie. Domestic Violence Walk to start pre-registration Saturday at Walmart

Jordan Crossroads Ministry Center – Haven of Rest is gearing up for its 4th annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 3, starting at the Clarendon County Gazebo on Keitt Street in Manning. The group is looking now for walkers to pre-register to guarantee shirts sizes are available for the day of the walk. A silver, orange and white U-Haul drive-on car carrier valued at $2,000 was reportedly stolen from a home in the 63400 block of Moses Dingle Road in Manning between July 17 and 2:12 p.m. July 20.

GABLE – Susie Emma Cooper Jiggetts, 74, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015. She was a daughter of the late Eddie and Sarah wheeler Cooper. The celebratory services for Susie Emma Cooper Jiggetts will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at Goodwill Presbyterian Church USA, 295 N. Brick Church Road in Mayesville, with the Rev. Dr. Ella F. Busby, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Dr. Ashley Vaughn providing eulogy. The family is receiving friends at her home, 7080 Eddie Cooper Road in Gable. College of Charleston graduate Joseph Cox celebrated his 26th birthday Thursday with his fellow students from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. Cox is one of eight students spending their third year of medical school with Clarendon Memorial Hospital for the next year. “I graduated with a degree in biology from the College of Charleston, and I’m following in the old man’s footsteps,” Cox said. DALZELL – Billy Ray Geddings, 81, widower of Betty Elizabeth Black Geddings, died Friday, July 31, 2015, at his home. Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Graham Geddings and Thelma Kolb Geddings. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 175. He was a retired U.S. Air Force technical sergeant, and later retired from Suburban Propane Gas Company. Supermarket Sweep 1: Melissa State takes $234 in groceries from Manning IGA

The Manning Times held its first Supermarket Sweep on Thursday night at the Manning IGA. Melissa State of Turbeville was our first contestant, and got $234.76 in groceries from the store. State registered at The Country Store in Turbeville, and went mostly for staples like rice, meat and beans, also picking up cereal, cold cuts, hot dogs and even Ramen noodles. She said she had a great time, but racing through the store with a buggy made her tired. We will post video of our second contestant Saturday. Carolina Dance Academy holding Open House on Sunday for new location

Spartanburg native Christopher Davis is one of eight new medical students calling Clarendon Memorial Hospital home for the next year. The 27 year old is in his third year of studies with Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, a school which has a partnership with Clarendon Memorial Hospital to host third- and fourth-year medical students for clinical rotations. Betty L. Brockman, 82, wife of Robert W. Brockman, died Tuesday evening, July 28, 2015, at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring, Ohio. Born in Seville, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late George and Inez (Eick) Miller. She received a doctorate in psychology from Kent State University and worked with the Parma School District for more than 25 years. She also had a private practice in Westlake, Ohio. Trailer, lift gate stolen from Austrian Pine area

A forest green Toplin JT-10 trailer with a mesh back lift gate and mesh sides, along with battery charges for an electric fence and an electrical box, all valued at $2,650, were reportedly stolen from the Austrian Pine area of Manning between July 17 and 9:34 a.m. July 20. The trailer’s 55-year-old owner told deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, according to reports, that he and his employees had disconnected the trailer from his tractor while they were working his farm in the area because “the tractor was functioning improperly.” When the workers returned to the field July 20,… Read the rest

Duke Energy maintenance could affect customers overnight

Duke Energy will perform maintenance repair in areas that will affect residents in part of Manning throughout the early morning hours.
