LAKE CITY – Laura Cameron died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Lake City Community Hospital.
Born July 1, 1922, in Lake City, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Sinclair Cameron. She was a faithful member of Bethel AME Church, where she served on the Missionary Society and with the Senior Choir. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, helping raise many children until her health declined.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; six sisters; a sister-in-law; and a brother-in-law.

Isiah “Son” Brown Sr., 81, widower of Leola Miller Brown, died Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born July 6, 1933 in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Jaris Brown and Ella McKenzie Brown.
The family will receive friends at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Isiah Brown Jr. and Annie Brown, 1590 James Road in Turbeville.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC Manning.


Sumter deputies looking for missing 83-year-old woman

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is seeking help finding an 83-year-old woman who went missing about 3 p.m. Saturday.
Steinkie Seales was last seen, according to reports, on North Main Street in Sumter at that time. Deputies said Seales lives in an assisted living facility in the 1200 block of North Main Street. She is described as a 5-foot-3 black female weighing about 120 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She has been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, and she could be outside without taking necessary precautions for heat.

Senator weighs in on Charleston church shooting

Kevin Johnson Saturday to provide his thoughts on the tragic shooting Wednesday night at a black Charleston church, which led to the deaths of nine people, including Sen. Clementa Pinckney, a friend and colleague of Johnson. Johnson initially posted this on Facebook Sunday morning.

TV, water pump stolen from Summerton home

A 26-inch flat screen TV valued at $250, $40 worth of change and a water pump valued at $450 were reportedly stolen from a home in the 3100 block of Rowe Drive in Summerton between 11:38 May 29 and 12:50 a.m. June 30.

$1,500 of equipment stolen from boat in Summerton

The 75-year-old owner of a pontoon boat parked in the 1000 block of Johndrow Lane in Summerton told deputies with the Clarendon County Sherrif’s Office about 10 a.m. June 1 that someone entered the boat and stole about $1,500 worth of miscellaneous items sometime between 4 a.m. June 1 and the time of his call.
According to reports, items stolen included tie-down straps, ropes, a marine battery, swiss army knifes, a first aid trauma kit, binoculars and a tool box, with miscellaneous tools inside. The owner told deputies that all the tiems had his initials imprinted, which would be PVS.
