6 named to CCU Dean’s List

CONWAY – Six Clarendon natives were part of about 1,800 students who made the 2015 Spring Semeter Dean’s List for academic achievement at Coastal Carolina University.
The students included Manning residents Abbey Bochette, a junior majoring in early childhood education; Aaron Bosier, a sophomore majoring in middle level education; Kevin Gist, a sophomore majoring in exercise and sport science; Tyrice Murray, a sophomore majoring in music; and Grace Surette, a sophomore majoring in early childhood education; and Turbeville resident Joshua Shorter, a sophomore majoring in hospitality, resort and tourism management.

A South Carolina license plate bearing the number GRB708 was reportedly stolen from a home in the 1000 block of Shively Lane in Turbeville about 8:54 p.m. May 22.


Wreck on Rev. J.W. Carter Road

Clarendon County dispatchers are reporting a vehicle wreck with possible entrapment on Rev. J.W. Carter Road, close to Davis Station. According to reports, EMS is en route to the one-vehicle wreck, which involves one possible injury.


Wreck with no injuries in Walmart parking lot

Clarendon County dispatchers are reporting a wreck with no injuries and no entrapment in the parking lot at Walmart on Paxville Highway in Manning. According to reports, the wreck involves a white Toyota and a gray Mercedes.

Louise McFadden Billie, 64, wife of Isaac Billie died Wednesday morning, May 27, 2015, at her home.
Born Oct. 31, 1950, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Abolon and Catherine Evans McFadden. She attended Eastern High School in Sumter County. In 1981, Louise heard the word of God and started a new life at the Church of Christ, where she attended until her health failed.

Teenager gets suspended sentence for March 2014 home invasion

A 19-year-old Manning man charged last year for a March 2014 home invasion in the 1600 block of Fleming Circle in Manning received two years in prison Tuesday in 3rd Circuit Court.

Circuit Court Judge Robert E. Hood actually sentenced Demetrius Stephon Dingle of 1384 Tuttle Drive in Manning to six years in prison after the suspect pleaded guilty Tuesday to strong arm robbery in Clarendon County General Sessions court, but suspended the sentence to two years in prison to be followed by two years’ probation.

Letter Children’s camp seeking help for much needed items

Greetings. Camp Happy Days is just around the corner and will be here before you know it.
We still have a number of items needed to make this camp a success for the children ages 4-16 who are either dealing with cancer or have survived cancer, and their siblings.
We have a wish list of items needed, items which will be essential to all of our amazing programs we have planned for the first week of July.

Smart TV, gaming system stolen from Alex Harvin Highway home

A 48-inch Vizio Smart TV, a Sony PlayStation 4 console valued at $500, a Sony PlayStation 3 console valued at $300 and PlayStation headphones valued at $50 were reportedly stolen from a home in the 2100 block of Alex Harvin Highway in Manning between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. May 19.

Coastal Carolina names April Floyd to President’s List

CONWAY – Manning native April Floyd was named to the Spring 2015 President’s List at Coastal Carolina University.
To qualify, Floyd earned a 4.0 GPA while enrolled as a full-time student. She is a senior majoring in elementary education.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for parts of Clarendon

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for south central Clarendon County and eastern Orangeburg County. At 3:36 p.m., a thunderstorm was reported about 7 miles east of Holly Hill, moving at 30 mph. Torrential rains and dime-sized hail are reported.

Golf cart stolen from Charles Drive home

An EZ-Go golf cart valued at $3,000 was reportedly stolen from a home in the 1000 block of Charles Drive in Manning between 10 p.m. May 24 and 7 a.m. May 25.


Summerton Pres spaghetti dinner

Summerton Presbyterian Church will hold a spaghetti dinner from 6-8 p.m. June 20. Tickets are $8 for those 10 and older, and $6 for children nine and younger. GABLE – Ulysses “Cee” Francis, 63, husband of Marolyn Williams Francis, died Sunday, May 31, 2015, at his home, 1347 Bosie Lewis Road in Gable.
Born Oct. 29, 1951, in Gable, he was a son of Susan Virginia Nelson Francis and the late Robert Francis.
The family is receiving friends at his home.
Services will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

Satara Dayquan Sharper died Friday, May 29, 2015, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.
Born March 27, 1983, in Sumter, “Tara,” as she was known, was a daughter of Patricia Ann Sharper and Joshua Burgess.
