CCSO: Local female pastors receive 'threats'

Posted
The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the person responsible for possible threats to the female pastors of three local churches. Maj. Kipp Coker said Tuesday that Greater Union Cypress AME Church, Society Hill AME Church and Reeseville AME Church have all received letters address to their respective female pastors from a man identifying himself as “Apostle Prophet Harry L. Fleming.” “The letters quote several Bible verses, which the person writing the letter feels makes reference to women not being head of the church, man, nor home, and the women must repent and turn away from what (they) are doing in the church, home and the world or (they) and (their) children will die,” Coker reported. “The pastors of all three churches are female and the letter caused them to be concerned for their safety, as well as for the safety of their congregation.” Coker said deputies are seeking the person or persons responsible for distributing the letters, and will have deputies posted at each church that received them. “The citizens of Clarendon County will be able to worship in peace knowing that the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office is working vigilantly to protect them,” said Sheriff Randy Garrett Jr. UPDATE: Man who wrote letter to female pastors apologizes, says no threat meant
