A 21-year-old man is still in custody at the Clarendon County Detention Center after bond was set Saturday on charges relating to a wreck that killed an 18-year-old Alcolu man, according to a jail official. A Clarendon County Magistrate Judge granted a $25,000 cash or $50,000 surety bond for Zackery Swiger, who is charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death and leaving the scene of a wreck. S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Hannah Wimberly reported Friday night that Swiger was taken to Clarendon Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in a wreck in the 2100 block of Alderman Camp Road. Clarendon County Dep. Coroner Bucky Mock said James Cody Sanders, 18, of Alcolu, was pronounced death at the scene of the wreck, saying the young man had serious head injuries. An autopsy was performed Saturday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Sanders was a passenger in Swiger’s 2003 Toyota Echo, which left the right side of the road, overcorrected, went to the left side, struck an embankment and then overturned after going to the right side again. Swiger allegedly left the scene of the wreck, which happened about 3:17 p.m. Friday, and was not found until several hours later.
