Two cases of beer allegedly stolen from a store in the 2000 block of Paxville Highway in Manning earned a Manning man a night in the Clarendon County Detention Center last week. The Manning Police Department arrested DeQuon Warren, 20, of 1151 Travis Lane in Manning, about 9:52 p.m. June 17, charging him with shoplifting. According to reports, Sgt. Alexander Duckes and Sr. Cpl. Tina Mack spoke with a store employee, who said that Warren allegedly walked out of the store heading west on Paxville Highway. Police found the suspect on the sidewalk in front of AutoZone, a few blocks away, and told him to get on the ground or he would be TASED. "The male immediately complied and placed his hand(s) behind his back while on the concrete ground," Dukes reported. "(After handcuffing him), the suspect begged to get off the hot ground, which I allowed him to do." Dukes said Warren was compliant, noting he was "very nice and said, 'Thank you, Mr. Dukes for not tasing me.'" A store employee showed video surveillance of Warren entering the store about 9:36 p.m., going directly to the beer section and taking a 24-pack of Bud Light valued at $14.97 and a 12-pack of Mangorita valued at $11.98. The suspect then walked out of the grocery door about 9:42 p.m. The beer was returned to the store, but the 24-pack was already opened, though no beer was taken.
