Mary Mixon Hopkins

LAKE CITY - Mary Mixon Hopkins, 85, widow of Roosevelt Bill Hopkins, died at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Born May 26, 1930, in Greeleyville, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Essie Dennis Mixon. She attended Williamsburg County public schools. She was a devoted mother to her eight children, and she loved to care for her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Roy G. Hopkins and Warren (Judy) Wright, both of Lake City, Marlin K. (Wanda) Hopkins and Cathy Antonio, both of Alcolu, Earnest (Joan) Mixon, Rosemary Coker and Jeannie Gamble, all of Manning, and Julian Wright of Turbeville; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mae Cockrell of Sumter County; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Earnest Paul Mixon and Lisa Marie McLeod.

The family received friends for two hours Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Brockington Funeral Home.

Graveside services for Mary Mixon Hopkins were held Friday, June 19, 2015, in the Greeleyville Free Will Baptist Church cemetery, 201 Easler Highway in Greeleyville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice in Florence.

Arrangements were handled by Brockington Funeral Home, 122 W. Thomas St. in Lake City.
