Black River Legion auxiliary announces delegates to girls' summer camp

The Black River American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 149 proudly announced last week its delegates for 2015 Palmetto Girls State.

“These young ladies will participate in the one-week leadership and citizenship training program, created to educate outstanding high school students about state and local government,” according to a release from the auxiliary. “They will experience governmental procedure by simulating political campaigns, elections and the political process, along with about 560 other delegates from across the state.”

The delegates are Brooklyn Lacey Fort and Ashlee Lineberger.

Fort is the daughter of Derrick and Sabina Fort of New Zion, and attends East Clarendon High School. She plays softball and has been on state runner-up and regional championship teams. She is a member of the Beta Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has served as vice-president.

Academically, she has always been on the honor roll and is a Junior Marshall. She attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar at Erskine College in 2014. She is an active member of Great Commission Ministries, where she sings in the choir and is active in the youth group and drama team.

Lineberger is the daughter of Lee and Kim Lineberger, and attends East Clarendon High School. She plays on the tennis team, which has won Lower State championships and several regional championships. She was nominated for the Milena Award at Clemson Tennis Camp.

She is in the Beta Club, Future Farmers of America and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a member of the Science Olympiad Team and received a bronze medal for boomilever presentation.

She was also a teacher cadet. Academically, she has always been on the honor roll and is a Junior Marshall. She is an active member of Kingstree United Methodist Church, where she serves in the handbell choir. She enjoys volunteering at the Animal Hospital of Kingstree.

This year’s Palmetto Girls State is June 7-13 and will be on the campus of Presbyterian College in Clinton.
