Nicole Denise Johnson, 34, died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Palmetto Health Richland hospital in Columbia.

Born Aug. 12, 1980, in Bronx, New York, she was a daughter of Jerry and Pearly Rose Dyson Johnson. Nicole was a graduate of Scott's Branch High School's Class of 1998. She received a bachelor's degree in social work in 2003 and a master of arts degree in teaching from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg. She was employed as a first- through fifth-grade teacher at Horrell Hill Elementary School in Hopkins.

While living in Summerton, Nicole was a member of Historic Liberty Hill AME Church. Upon moving to Columbia, she became a member of Bethel AME Church.

Survivors besides her parents include a son, Kelon Stukes of the home; a sister, Jennifer (Larry) Ryder; the students, faculty and staff of Richland School District 1; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Nicole Denise Johnson will be held at noon Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Historic Liberty Hill AME Church in Summerton, with the Rev. Robert China, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Brailsford as eulogist. Final resting place will be the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1-7 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015, at Dyson's Home for Funerals chapel.

Ms. Johnson will be placed in the church an hour prior to the service.

The family will receive friends at the home of her mother, Pearly Rose Johnson, 1190 Rapid Edge Trail in Summerton.
