COLUMBIA – Michael Dallas Chalfant, husband of Jackie Eadon Chalfant, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015.

Born in Atlantic City, N.J., he was a son of the late Harry “Duke” Chalfant and Jean Viden Chalfant. Mike graduated in 1962 from The Citadel and received his master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina.

He flew helicopters for the S.C. National Guard and was in sales throughout his life. He enjoyed reading, riding horses with his wife, playing poker with his poker club and was an avid Citadel Bulldog and Gamecock fan.

Survivors besides his wife of 42 years include a stepson, Paul Butler and his wife, Elena; a stepdaughter, Neel Lesesne and her husband, George; five grandchildren, Abbie Chalfant, Bobby Harris, Lindsay Lesesne, Jay Lesesne and Tatiana Elkina; and a brother, Bobby Chalfant and Beverly Spagg of Atlanta, Georgia.

Memorial services for Michael Dallas Chalfant were held Friday, May 15, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine St. in Columbia, with visitation following for an hour prior.

Private burial will be held at a later date in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

The family asks that memorials in the name of Michael Dallas Chalfant be made to the Humane Society of South Carolina, 121 Humane Lane, Columbia, SC 29209; or the Wounded Warrior Program.
