SUMMERTON – Barbara McCraw Carlton, 82, wife of John David Carlton Jr., died Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 21, 1932, in Gaffney, she was a daughter of the late Shuford Edward McCraw and Lucy Whiten McCraw. She retired from the town of Summerton in 1994 as assistant to the mayor, and she owned Carlton’s Christian Bookstore in Summerton. She was a member of Summerton Baptist Church.
Survivors besides her husband of Summerton include a son, John David Carlton III (Terrie) of Summerton; two daughters, Jane Carlton Ours of Summerton and Kaye Carlton Collins (Paul) of St. Matthews; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter; three brothers; and a sister.
Graveside services will be private.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Summerton Baptist Church.
