LMA sporting clays team shines at DNR open

The Laurence Manning Academy Sporting Clays Team was exceptional during the 1st S.C. Department of Natural Resources Youth Sporting Clays Open, competing against about 450 shooters from the state and surrounding areas. The team competed Saturday at the Palmetto Shooting Sports Complex in Edgefield. Middle school ladies Carrie Rickenbaker, Jamie Williamson and Isabella Harris bested all beams by winning first in the Middle School Ladies School Division. Jamie Williamson shot the highest overall score in the Intermediate Ladies Division, shooting 81 out of 100 clays. The girls’ varsity team comprised of AmberLynn Fowler, Aubrey Pack and Kelsea Williamson managed two awards: the 2nd place High School Ladies School Division trophy and the 2015 South Carolina Independent School Association Girls Sporting Clays State Runner trophy. Trevor Turcotte, John Burroughs and Reed Norris managed to shoot their highest-ever team score, capturing a 2nd place Junior Varsity School Division trophy. The boys’ intermediate team comprised of Bryson Woodard, Evan Ardis and Justin Lowder outpaced their previous performances, winning a 2nd place Intermediate Boys School Division trophy. Trevor Turcott and Colby Harker also earned their first-ever 25 Straight Awards. John Graham was awarded a $500 National Rifle Association scholarship. “The team has been gaining momentum throughout the year, and this shoot culminated (from) their hard work with outstanding results,” said Coach Dave Turcotte. “Way to go LMA!”
