Summerton Pres to hold Community Lenten Service

Navy seaman surprises sister at Clarendon Hall

barnes family reunion 4U.S. Navy Seaman Jonathan Barnes, 21, had not been home for 10 months when he surprised his sister, Summer, last week at Clarendon Hall.
Summer, 16, a sophomore at the school, was eating lunch when her older brother walked in and surprised her. The tearful reunion was “a long time coming,” the elder Barnes said.
“We are very close,” said Jonathan. “She had no idea I was coming, and I wanted to surprise her. I haven’t been able to talk to her since I’ve been deployed.”

Louis Fulton Jr.

louis fultonLouis “Buster” Fulton Jr., 81, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Aug. 21, 1933, in Manning, he was a son of the late Louis Fulton Sr. and Hester Martin Fulton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Hayes F. and LaNelle J. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St. in Manning.
The family received friends at the home, 411 Holden St. in Manning.
Services were entrusted by Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

It’s currently 53 degrees with 77 percent humidity and winds out of the south at 3 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Today should be mostly cloudy with high temps in the upper 70s and south winds reaching 5 mph.

Tonight’s low is forecast to be in the lower 50s.

 


Pennies for a Purpose classroom winners

IMG_1142Miss Clarendon 2015 Ariana Ruiz, Miss Clarendon Teen 2015 Addison Hicks and Miss Clarendon Preteen 2015 Eaddy Osteen visited two Pennies for a Purpose winning classrooms in February. The winning class at Laurence Manning Academy was Mrs. Rembert’s second-grade class, and they received a popcorn party. At Manning Primary School, Ms. Davis’ class was the overall winner and received a pizza party. Miss Clarendon Teen princesses Chloe Anderson and Gracie Hicks also attended.
Pennies for a Purpose was a fundraising drive for the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, the national charity of the Miss America Organization. Participating schools raised about $1,140. … Read the rest

Taste of New Covenant next weekend

newcovenant7The Taste of New Covenant Presbyterian Church will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday at the church, 2833 Alex Harvin Highway in Manning. There is a $20 donation per person, and children 6 and younger are free. All proceeds will be used for youth summer camps. Call Susan Dominick at (803) 473-3677 for tickets. Wreck with no injuries on I-95

The S.C. Highway patrol is reporting a wreck with no injuries between the 138 and 139 mile markers on interstate 95.

Manning man charged with PWID marijuana, unlawful carrying of a handgun

A 27-year-old man was arrested about 4:26 p.m. Feb. 28 in the area of Church and Winfield streets in Manning shortly after a traffic stop.
Tony Dmart Frierson, 27, of 105 Richard St. in Manning, was charged with possession with intent to distribute to marijuana and unlawful carrying of a handgun. According to reports, Manning Police Cpl. W.B. Secrist II stopped a car in which Frierson was the passenger. The car had failed to use a turn signal.

FTC: New area code means 10-digit dialing for all local calls

FTCResidential and business customers within the existing 843 area code should be prepared for the introduction of a new 854 area code.
FTC announced Wednesday that beginning Oct. 19, customers in the 843 area code region requesting new service, an additional line, or in some cases moving their service, could be assigned a number in the new 854 area code.
To ensure a continuing supply of telephone numbers, the 854 area code will be added to the 843 area code region, which generally covers the Coastal counties and principally serves the communities of Charleston, Hilton Head Island, Myrtle Beach and … Read the rest

CADES – Mary Lou Patrick, 83, wife of Bishop Brinkley Patrick, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at McLeod Hospice, after an illness.

Born Jan. 19, 1932, in Florence, she was a daughter of the late Willard Parrott and Ella Mae Tanner Parrott. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Survivors besides her husband of Cades include two sons, Wyman (Lori) Patrick of Lexington and Timmy (Joyce) Patrick of Cades; a daughter, Ava (Benji) Rogers of Cades; a sister, Mildred McElveen of Olanta; four grandchildren, Shawn (Megan) Patrick of Andrews, … Read the rest

Gary Wayne Gregg, 63, of Manning, died Thursday, March 5, 2015.
Born in Florence, he was a son of the late Wilson Ellison Gregg and Rosa Lee Pitts Gregg. He was a dental technician for more than 35 years. He was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Gregg and James Ellison Gregg.
Survivors include a brother, Richard (Barbara) L. Gregg of Manning.
Graveside services were held Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Hopewell Presbyterian Church cemetery, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
