Clarendon Behavioral Health Services, formerly the Clarendon County Commission of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, is very proud to announce that Executive Director A. Ann Kirven celebrates her 40th anniversary with the agency on March 28. Kirven was the first director hired for the agency and was hired on March 28, 1975. She has worked tirelessly to form the agency and guide it into its current position as one of the top behavioral health centers in the state. Clarendon Behavioral Health Services consistently ranks at the top of every list of deliverables in statewide evaluations and has served as a model for other agencies to follow. Kirven holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and two Masters degrees, one in Rehabilitative Counseling and one in Management of Organizations. She also maintains an active counseling client base in addition to her duties managing the organization. She is a certified inspector for CARF accreditation and a frequent speaker at boards and seminars. Kirven is married to Walter L. “Sonny” Sanders and is a resident of Summerton. She is a lifelong Clarendon County resident with deep roots in Clarendon County. She is very involved in local committees and her church. “I do not have any idea how our commission would have functioned all these years without Ann Kirven, and I am glad that I do not have to find out,” said Board Chairman Tommy Geddings. “She has been the heart and soul of the commission and it is inspiring when we go to state functions and see the respect she has from her peers. We are truly bless to have her guidance.” Clarendon County Council has designated March 28, 2015, as “Ann Kirven Day” in Clarendon County and she will be recognized at the April County Council meeting.
