LMA soccer team up to 3-2 record

The Laurence Manning Academy soccer team has worked its way to a 3-2 record after five games this season. The team scored a win in its first game against Orangeburg Prep, 9-0, on Feb. 23 at home. Luke DeCosta scored four goals with one assist. Olin Robinson scored three goals with four assists. Parker Wannamaker scored one goal and Toney Cruz scored a goal. Andrew Compton held the shut-out from goal. The team picked up its first loss Feb. 26 in its second game, with a score of 3-2 against Thomas Sumter Academy at home. Oline Robinson scored two goals for LMA, while Luke DeCosta had one assist. The team suffered its second loss March 10 against Florence Christian, 4-3, at home. The game ended 0-0 after egulation time and 0-0 after two overtime periods, but Florence Christian managed the win after a five-goal shootout. The team defeated Calhoun Academy for its second win on March 14, 3-0, in a tournament at Lakewood High School in Sumter. Cameran Melina scored a goal, while Luke DeCosta scored two. Andrew Compton held the shutout from goal. The tournament championships game will be held 5 p.m. Saturday between LMA and Lakewood High. The team picked up its third win, and third shutout, on March 18 against First Baptist at home, 3-0. Cameran Melina, Phelps Gregory and Luke DeCosta each scored one goal, while Andrew Compton again held the shutout from goal along with Nick Gizzi.
