Clarendon 2: School on for Wednesday

Clarendon School District 2 Superintendent said a few minutes ago that school will be in session Wednesday for students in district schools. He said he is monitoring the weather closely and will make any final decision about closing early Wednesday morning.

Guns, hunting equipment stolen from vehicle

A Belgium A5 shotgun and Marlin rifle, valued at $1,500, along with tools valued at $1,200 and camping and fishing supplies valued at $2,500 were reportedly stolen from a truck parked in the 8900 block of Puddin’ Swamp Road in Turbeville between Jan. 21 and 12:30 a.m. Feb. 6. According to reports, tools stolen included a Porta Cable bandsaw and stream light, a rechargeable flashlight and a DeWalt Grinder and Klein electrician’s tool set. Equipment stolen included eight Johnson tracking collars, a wildlife tracking system and a tracking antenna.

Fidelity Lodge honors Julian Gamble for 70 years with Masons

Julian Gamble of Turbeville was the charter worshipful master for Fidelity Masonic Lodge No. 394. He was recognized Feb. 14 for 70 years, and given a pin for that amount of time, along with an etched-glass plaque, by the lodge’s current membership. Gamble said he was serving overseas in World War II when he found out he would be elevated to the “sublime degree of master mason.” Gamble is the only Fidelity charter member still living, and he said he and fellow charter members “enjoyed building this lodge.” He said members would sign a bank note, and then pay it … Read the rest

Ravenell Dingle, husband of Edith Carter Dingle, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at Windsor Manor Nursing Facility in Silver.
Born on Jan. 8, 1939, in Manning, he was a son of the late William and Victoria Ballard Dingle.
Survivors besides his loving wife include a son, Colvin Dingle; a daughter, Cinda (Anthony) Fulwood; a grandson, Jaylon Fulwood; granddaughter, Jayla Fulwood; two brothers, the Rev. O’Donald Dingle and Johnnie (Mamie) Dingle; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Margaret Cole

Margaret Cole, 85, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at a local nursing home.
Born July 4, 1929, in Cheraw, she was a daughter of the late Harold Cole and Sally Brown Cole. She was a retired nurse’s assistant and she was of the Presbyterian faith.
She is survived by a son, Kenny Waldrop (Belinda) of Manning; three daughters, Sue Avin (Tim) of Manning, Margaret Powers Floyd (Kenny) of Hartsville and Cathy Hill (Larry) of Alcolu; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Powers.
