1885 – The American Telephone and Telegraph Co. (AT&T) incorporates in New York as a subsidiary of American Bell Telephone. 1939 – The non-word “dord,” defined as a physics or chemistry term for “density,” is discovered in the 2nd edition of Merriam-Webster’s New International Dictionary, five years after the guide’s publication.
