Les Tindal resigns from Black River Electric board, son takes seat

The Black River Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees announced Friday the resignation of D. Leslie Tindal from the board, effective Feb. 15, 2015. Tindal was a member of the board for 55 years, and served as its chairman from 1982 to 1986. The board announced that Tindal's son, David L. Tindal III will complete his father's term, which has two years left. David is the owner of Tindal Farms in Pinewood and will represent District 9 on the cooperative board. He and his wife, Nancy, have two children, Rebecca Thompson and David L. Tindal IV, and a son-in-law, Rob Thompson, and a daughter-in-law, Danielle Tindal. The couple has a grandson, Braxton Thompson D. Leslie Tindal, 86, is a Pinewood native and Furman University graduate who began farming in 1949, planting cotton, corn, soybeans, and some grains, oats and wheat; he later began growing certified seed. The elder Tindal was elected Commissioner of Agriculture in 1982, serving for 20 years until his retirement in 2002. He started the work on the Pee Dee Farmer's Market and helped bring the kiwi fruit to the state during his tenure with the Agriculture Department. David Tindal enjoys hunting, fishing and boating in his spare time. He is an active member of Summerton Baptist Church.
