A 52-year-old Manning man was charged with several narcotics offenses Feb. 11 after initially being reported to Manning police for an alleged shoplifting offense. Carl Troy Kidwell of 219 N. Church St. in Manning was charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule I-V controlled substance and one count of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, all first offenses, about 10:46 a.m. Feb. 11 at a drug store in the 100 block of West Boyce Street in Manning. According to reports, management with the store initially told police that Kidwell approached the store's exit and attempted to go around the security alarm box, which detects merchandise that has not been paid for. An employee forced Kidwell to go through the security alarm box, and the alarm went off. At the same time, the alleged item dropped on the floor. Kidwell allegedly told store employees that he was going to pay for it but that he needed the cheaper one. Sgt. Alexander Dukes reported that Kidwell went back to a section of the store and supposedly got a cheaper item. The item was a Monistat vaginal yeast infection cream valued at $20.99, while the one of lesser price was $17. By this point, police had shown up. A records checked showed no prior shoplifting charges, and police asked him several times how he got to the store. Kidwell pointed to a black truck outside, and said he is "servicing the guy (and) he don't mind (him) driving it." Kidwell's license showed as suspended during a records check, and the owner of the truck was notified. During a search, police found what they believed to be two clonazepam pills and one diazepam pill. They also found a half-pill believed to be Oxycodone. Reports from the Manning Police Department state Kidwell was also charged with driving under suspension, but no information on that charge is available in court records. He was released the day after his arrest on three $1,000 personal recognizance bonds.
