A 77-year-old woman living in the 500 block of Sunset Drive in Manning told the Manning Police Department about 11:28 a.m. Jan. 25 that her 71-year-old husband picked up a machete and threatened to kill her by cutting off her head during an argument earlier that morning. The victim said the argument started because her husband would not take her to church, and alleged that the man continuously said he was going to hit her. She said that ultimately no physical altercation took place. The suspect told police that the argument was about him not being able to pick her up from church because there is a sewage problem in the house, and he was going to go to Lowe's after he took her to church. He said he did not threaten his wife, and said he keeps the machete by the fire place because he uses it to cut firewood, and also takes it outside when he goes just in case he sees a snake. Police reported that the machete was in the broom closet in the kitchen, and the wife told police she put it there after he threatened to her. The woman told police she didn't want to press charges.
