Gregory Holliday has been a volunteer firefighter for 25 years, and he was The Manning Times' January Volunteer Firefighter of the Month. A lieutenant, his primary employment is as director of maintenance at Clarendon School District 1. The 56 year old also serves as chairman of the Clarendon County Election Commission. He said he wanted to be a firefighter to “be a help in my community (and) to be there when my fellow man needs me.” He said he plans to be with the fire department as long as he is able, and that one of the hardest parts has been watching families lose their homes and personal possessions, including their priceless photographs and other memories. He said he loves being able to assist those involved in accidents and assuring them that everything will be OK. He is married to Lawreen Holliday, and the couple has two daughters, Shateka Holliday, 32, and Shanetra Holliday, 30. They also have a grandson, Ayden Lyles, 4.
