New Year’s Resolutions: Moye Graham

Posted on January 1, 2015 2:02 pm by Robert Joseph Baker

It does not seem like a year. This past 365 days have gone fast. My resolutions for 2015 are to work harder in trying to build bridges and trust between Republicans locally and minorities and when I say minorities I am including blacks, Hispanics and women. I also want to try and attract as many religions to the Republican Party as well, be it Baptist, Jewish or other. I also want to put more pressure on all our local elected officials to make sure they do the right thing for the people they represent. If I do find out an … Read the rest

A Look Back: Children’s Home closes

Posted on January 1, 2015 12:12 pm by Robert Joseph Baker

The Freewill Baptist Home for Children in Turbeville gave shelter to children for more than six decades, before closing abruptly in March 2014. The state Free Will Baptist Association voted at its annual meeting Feb. 28 in Spartanburg to close the home after “months of prayer,” according to an announcement.
The state association also commissioned a feasibility study for various possibilities of utilizing the Children’s Home property to enhance the ministries of Free Will Baptist in South Carolina. The association said at the time of its announcement earlier this year that the home had more than $200,000 in debt. The … Read the rest

Posted on January 1, 2015 11:11 am by Robert Joseph Baker

A 50-year-old Manning woman was arrested about 12:28 p.m. Dec. 15 at a store on Paxville Highway and charged with shoplifting after a store employee told the Manning Police Department that she filled up a buggy with items and left the store without paying for them.

Debra Church Mixon of 1076 Shadow Oak Road in Manning told police that she did not mean to go outside the store and that it was a mistake. Employees said she filled the buggy “with assorted clothing, food, toys and … a 24-pack of Budweiser beer.” She then allegedly pushed the overfilled car past … Read the rest

New Year’s Resolutions: Dax James and Ginger Hipp

Posted on January 1, 2015 11:11 am by Robert Joseph Baker

Dax James – My resolution for 2015 is to go to more of my children’s activities than the previous year, even if it means burning vacation days.

Ginger Hipp – The only thing I’d like to do differently this year is learn to ride my mare bridleless. And lose 20 pounds, get rich, have a maid and a Puerto Rican pool boy. You know, just the normal resolutions.

Oreo is a male black-and-white domestic short hair at A Second Chance Animal Shelter of Clarendon County. He is 2 months old, current on his shots and neutered. He came in with his siblings, Pumpkin, Garfield, Autumn and Sara. Stop by the shelter on Alex Harvin Highway in Manning and check these kittens out. A Look Back: Ice storms wreak havoc in 2014

Posted on January 1, 2015 7:07 am by Robert Joseph Baker

cover_graceManninglive.com launched mid-January, and flew under the radar for a couple of weeks.

That’s how we wanted it. A soft launch, as they call it, would allow us to work out the kinks and see what worked and what didn’t.

We were still finding our way when we were bombarded by not one, but two ice storms, two weeks apart. The first was merely an “appetizer” for the second one, which left more than 12,000 in Clarendon County without power. Some remained without power for more than 10 days.

Altogether, Santee Electric Cooperative and Duke Progress Energy had 20,000 Clarendon … Read the rest

I am going to try treating people a little better being mindful of the fact that at any given moment everyone has something going on in their life. Posted on January 1, 2015 6:06 am by Robert Joseph Baker
