Seitz-Lewis engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Seitz of Manning announce the engagement of their daughter, Hanna Elizabeth Seitz, to Austin Metz Lewis, son of Duane Lewis of Monck’s Corner and Sandra Marlowe of Myrtle Beach. Both are graduates of Clarendon Hall Academy and Central Carolina Technical College. Hanna is a medical assistant at J. Dalton Dubose Medical Center in Summerton and Austin is a member of Oak III farms in Summerton.The wedding will take place in April at The Davis House Plantation in Manning.

Monarchs defeat Eagles

The Manning High School Monarchs defeated rivals, the Scott’s Branch High School Eagles, in a close 56-53 game on Saturday night in Summerton. The Monarchs took a trophy the two teams trade back and forth for sports wins.


Varsity Saints pick up first conference win in Estill

The Clarendon Hall varsity Saints picked up their first conference win of the season Friday night with a 38-34 victory over Patrick Henry Academy. Matthew Corbett led the Saints with 12 points and six rebounds. Dustin Way added 11 points, and Raj Patel chipped in eight points. The Saints are now 2-5 on the season, with a 1-1 region record. They will travel Monday to Sumter to take on St. Francis Xavier Academy.

The Manning Times will be hosting a Taste of Home Cooking School on March 12 at Weldon Auditorium in Manning. General admission will be $12, VIP admission will be $35. VIP admission will start at 4 p.m. that day, with a meet and greet with the Taste of Home celebrity chef from 4:30-5:30 p.m. General admission starts at 5 p.m. The show on the Weldon stage will start at 7 p.m. There will also be food, arts and crafts and boutique vendors throughout the complex. “Making Love Last” at MUMC

The Rev. Randy Smith, pastor of Manning United Methodist Church, will present a series of lessons, “Making Love Last,” starting Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, and lasting through Feb. 15. Worship services are 9 and 11 a.m. Sundays, with Sunday school at 10 a.m.

Charlie Nelson Jr., beloved widower of Margaret L. Nelson, died Friday evening, Jan. 9, 2015, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Mark Bellamy, 1020 Travis Lane in Manning.
Funeral services for Charlie Nelson Jr. are incomplete and will be announced by Fleming and DeLaine Funeral Home and Chapel of Manning.


Lillie Pearl Witherspoon Tindal

SUMMERTON – Lillie Pearl Witherspoon Tindal, 97, widow of Ellison Tindal, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 6, 1917, in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late James and Carrie Georgia Witherspoon.

The family will receive friends at the home, 1149 Rolling Hill Drive in Summerton.

These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.

Wreck with no injuries on I-95

The S.C. Highway Patrol is reporting a wreck with no injuries at the 131 mile-marker in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Clarendon County. Traffic may be slower during this time.

Boys B-team defeats Hammond

The Laurence Manning Academy Boys B-team defeated Hammond 40-24 on Friday night. Chase Lee and Seth Stamps led the team, with 11 points each, while Wyatt Rowland scored six. The record is now 2-1 on the season. They play again Monday at home against Thomas Sumter Academy.


LMA girls B-team falls to Hammond

The Laurence Manning Academy girls B-team fell 19-14 in overtime to Hammond School on Friday night. Trinity Harrington scored four points while Elizabeth Hicks scored three. The team’s record is now 2-1 on the season. They play again Monday at LMA against Thomas Sumter Academy

CMH, Newberry Hospital challenge each other in Battle of the Bulge

At 31.7 percent, South Carolina has the tenth highest adult obesity rate in the nation, according to The State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America. If that’s not troubling enough, the adult obesity rates in some of the Palmetto State’s rural communities are significantly higher than the state average: 46.2 percent in Newberry County and 40.2 percent in Clarendon County.

Now, the leaders of two small community hospitals are challenging their communities to “take it off” in a unique, cross-state “Battle of the Bulge” weight-loss competition.
