Arthur Bryan Anderson Jr.

SUMMERTON – Arthur Bryan Anderson Jr., 82, husband of 57 years to Mary Ann McAlister Anderson, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 24, 1932, in Great Falls, he was a son of the late Arthur Bryan Anderson, Sr. and Nell Gray Anderson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, a 1958 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy, the retired owner and operator of Anderson Pharmacy in Manning and he was of the Presbyterian faith.

Dorothy Jeannette Jordan Craven

TURBEVILLE – Dorothy Jeannette Jordan Craven, 89, widow of John William Craven Sr., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at her home.
Born Sept. 29, 1925, in Meridian, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Horace Levon Jordan and Hazel Jeannette Curtis Jordan. She was a homemaker and a member of Turbeville First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Robert Craven (Beth) of Turbeville; a daughter, Linda Whitehead of Turbeville; a daughter-in-law, Sonja Craven of Huntsville, Ala.; a sister, Bobbie Davis (Don) of Huntsville; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Man tells Sheriff’s Office someone used his debit card at Toys R Us

A 70-year-old Manning man told deputies about 1:02 p.m. Dec. 23, 2014, that someone used his debit card about 10:50 p.m. Dec. 20, 2014, at a Toys R Us store in Florence, charging about $215.30 in merchandise from the store. The man then canceled the card after his bank advised him of the activity. The bank reported someone attempted to use the card again that night, but it was declined.

It’s currently 44 degrees with 93 percent humidity and winds out of the northwest at 3 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Today’s high is expected to be 52. Winds should pick up a little bit.

Rain is likely tonight, mainly before 10 p.m. with a low around 44.

Bennie James Turner, 74, husband of Evelyn Billups Turner, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter

Born May 3, 1940, in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Frank and Addie Blair Turner. Bennie attended Kershaw County public schools. Raised in a Christian home, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age, and was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church. He was later baptized in the Seventh-day Adventist faith and was a faithful member of Sumter Seventh-day Adventist Church, until his health declined. He enjoyed listening to … Read the rest


Apartment complex reports vandalism

The 47-year-old manager of an apartment complex in the 400 block of Parson Street in Summerton told deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office about 9:13 a.m. Jan. 7 that someone damaged the door jam area of the front entry of an empty unit in the complex, causing about $300 in damages, sometime before the maintenance man looked in the apartment that morning.

 


Lillie Pearl Witherspoon Tindal

SUMMERTON – Lillie Pearl Witherspoon Tindal, 97, widow of Ellison Tindal, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born Sept. 6, 1917, in Summerton, she was a daughter of the late James Witherspoon and Carrie Georgia Witherspoon.

Celebratory services for Lillie Pearl Witherspoon Tindal will be held Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church in Summerton, with the Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery.

Mrs. Tindal will lie in repose for an hour prior to services.

JV Lady Saints fall to Patrick Henry

The Clarendon Hall JV Lady Saints lost to Patrick Henry Academy on Friday night, 25-17. Mallory McIntosh led the team, with seven points. Brynne Baxley added four points and five rebounds.

The Clarendon Hall JV boys team lost 31-22 on Friday to Patrick Henry Academy. Kameron Earles and Robbie James led the JV Saints, with eight points each. Dylan Way added six points and 10 rebounds.

 


Clarendon Hall girls B-team picks up win in first game of season

The Clarendon Hall girls B-team picked up a win in its first game over Patrick Henry Academy on Friday with a score of 25-10. Whitney Avins led the team, with 10 points. Livvie Brunson scored her first basket of the season, finishing with two points. May Rogan chipped in six points for the Saints.

 


Medication stolen from Sweet Pea Lane home

A 61-year-old man living in the 1100 block of Sweet Pea Lane in Manning told deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office about 9 a.m. Jan. 7 that someone entered his home between 4 a.m. that day and the time of his complaint and took $150 worth of medication he had hidden under the edge of his bed. The medications were described as blood pressure pills, Dilata for seizures and Xanax and Ambien. The man said he’d just had the prescriptions filled. Lady Saints fall to Patrick Henry

The Clarendon Hall Lady Saints fell 40-38 to Patrick Henry Academy on Friday night. Shannon Corbett led the Lady Saints, with 16 points and five rebounds. Delaney Peeler added eight points and nine rebounds. The team evened its record to 3-3 on the season. They will play Tuesday at home against Jefferson Davis Academy.
