1547 – Edward VI becomes king of Great Britain upon the death of his father, Henry VII. The sickly, 9-year-old boy becomes the first true Protestant ruler of England. 1754 – Horace Walpole coins the word serendipity, meaning “pleasant surprise” or “fortunate happenstance,” in a letter to Horace Mann. 1958 – The Lego company patents the design of its Lego bricks, which are still compatible with bricks used today. 1979 – CBS News Sunday Morning debuts with original host and co-creator Charles Kuralt.
