Sold motel still for sale

A dormant motel next to Interstate 95 has been sold. But it's still for sale. The Clarendon Inn and Grill LLC at 5793 Alex Harvin Highway, owned by Julien Weinberg III, was sold Jan. 15 to IFR, LLC for $332,823.26, records show. According to the S.C. Secretary of State's Office, IFR, LLC is registered to Sylvia Clark with a Hilton Head Island address. Weinberg said Friday he and his sister Ellen Boney were "in it together from the beginning," and that while he deeded the property over to her, it's still for sale. "I'm hopeful that somebody will want it," he said. "It's a big property." There's four buildings totaling 26,638 square feet on two parcels comprising 15.34 acres, records show. There's also a swimming pool and the main building -- 8,070 square feet with an asphalt roof -- has a large conference and meeting room. The property officially closed its doors in November, he said. As for the prospects of future re-development due to its proximity to the interstate and industrial park, he offered a wry observation. "It will either be spectacularly good or it will be spectacularly bad." Efforts to reach Mrs. Clark were unsuccessful.
