SUMTER – Wayne Mitchum, 69, husband of Susan E. Mitchum, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Ernest Mitchum and Fannie James Mitchum. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, where he served as the Worship Leader. Wayne was an accomplished musician and guitar player and was the co-founder of the group, Chapter 2. He was also the emcee at the Gospel Music Barn on Thursday nights. He was a master cabinet and furniture maker as well as a master carpenter.

Survivors besides his wife include three children, Lisa Noel Marshel (Chris) of Las Vegas, Nev., Eric Mitchum of Sumter, and Wesley Pellerin (Sarah) of Cayce; and two grandchildren, Zachery Marshel and Sybil Pellerin.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Graham Bochman, Pastor Wayne McElveen and the Rev. Dearld Sterling officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Providence Baptist Church, and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Avenue North, Suite 101, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577; or to the Providence Baptist Church Building Fund, 2445 Old Manning Rd., Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
