MECC takes Great Kindness Challenge

Posted
MECC encourages community members and businesses to come together and participate in The Great Kindness Challenge from Jan. 26-30. The challenge is a positive, proactive bullying prevention initiative, reaching millions of students during the last full week of January each year. Activities to help support a safe and caring school environment include a kick off Act of Kindness video, daily quotes on kindness, a class competition to visually represent the theme of kindness through the Cover the Cafeteria in Kindness Contest, making kindness bracelets, staff wearing kindness buttons to help remind one another to be kind, daily homework assignments to complete a kindness checklist, and a culminating award assembly to recognize those who displayed the most kind acts during the week. MECC, in collaboration with Kids for Peace, is sponsoring the event. "It only takes seconds to be kind to someone, but it takes a lifetime to overcome hurt and despair,” said MECC Principal Betty Harrington. “Being kind to others improves every aspect of our lives. Pay it forward whenever you get an opportunity." The Great Kindness Challenge School Edition was created by Kids for Peace to provide schools a tool for creating a positive school environment. In 2014, 554,486 students participated and performed more than 27 million acts of kindness nationwide. The Great Kindness Challenge is generously sponsored by Dignity Health, ViaSat, SDGE, NRG, The Code Crew, ExaMobile and Kinvolved. Kids for Peace, a global 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides a platform for young people to actively engage in socially conscious leadership, community service, arts, environmental stewardship and global friendship.
