Bennie James Turner, 74, husband of Evelyn Billups Turner, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter

Born May 3, 1940, in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Frank and Addie Blair Turner. Bennie attended Kershaw County public schools. Raised in a Christian home, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age, and was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church. He was later baptized in the Seventh-day Adventist faith and was a faithful member of Sumter Seventh-day Adventist Church, until his health declined. He enjoyed listening to gospel music, singing, cooking and spending time with family. He was employed with Service Party Rental Inc. as a truck driver, until his retirement.

Survivors besides his faithful and loving wife of 45 years include seven children, Tyrone (Aschard) Turner of Arverne, N.Y., Travis Turner, Toshia (Albert) Johnson, Samantha Turner and Sheryl Turner, all of Sumter, and Erika and Shante Turner both of the home; six grandchildren; a brother, Johnny (Sally) Turner of Camden; a sister, Mary (Willie) Peebles of Camden; three brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Bennie James Turner were held Sunday, Jan. 11, 2014,  at the Berea Seventh-day Adventist Church, 675 S. Lafayette Drive in Sumter, with Pastor Marquis Jackson, Pastor Robert Green Jr., eulogist, assisted by Pastor Morris Graham, Pastor Harry Robinson and Pastor Samuel Bonham. Burial followed in Haynesworth Cemetery.

The family received family and friends at the home, 2302 Harper St. in Sumter.
