A 30-year-old Manning man was charged about 2:41 a.m. Thursday with breach of peace in the 4700 block of Broad Street in Sumter after deputies with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office initially approached him about sleeping in his car. According to reports, David Dupree became belligerent and kept using profanity as deputies talked to him about sleeping in his car. Initially, deputies knocked on his window several times to wake him up, and reported "smelling the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle." Dupree reportedly told deputies he had a few drinks earlier in the night. Dupree gave deputies his license, and dispatch reported he was wanted for a bench warrant in Clarendon County. According to court records, Dupree was tried in his absence last year and sentenced to 30 days in jail for simple possession of marijuana. During a search, Dupree refused to take his hands out of his pockets, and began using loud profanity. When deputies tried to put cuffs on Dupree, the suspect began to pull away and continued to ignore orders to put his hands behind his back while continuously being profane and belligerent.
