Inv. Rick Elms with the Manning Police Department said Wednesday that two men have been arrested for their alleged roles in a shooting at Browntown Social Club early Saturday morning. Shawn Avant and Jeremiah Jermaine Brandon Smith are being charged with attempted murder, Elms said. Avant is also being charged with resisting arrest. "We brought him to the police station for an interview, and right as we were putting the cuffs on him, he ran," Elms said. "He essentially hauled tail with handcuffs on. We found him late (Tuesday) evening in the vicinity of CVS." Elms said the investigation into the shooting is still ongoing, and more arrests are possible. A 21-year-old man is recovering from gunshot wounds received about 3 a.m. Saturday morning in the incident. Officers reported to the parking lot of Browntown Social Club several minutes later, but the victim was already being transported to the hospital by bystanders.
