SUMTER – Julie McDaniel Wright, 56, widow of Charles Albert Wright, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of Nell Lowder McDaniel and the late Lester Daniel McDaniel Sr.
Mrs. Wright was formerly employed as a registered nurse with several area hospitals and nursing facilities.
Surviving are her mother of Sumter; three daughters, Allison McCoy Thames, Laura Elizabeth McCoy and Marian Lorraine Newman; five grandchildren, Anna Chandler, Will Chandler, Caroline Barfield, Gracie Barfield and Kailen Newman; a sister, Janice Kalish; a brother, Les McDaniel Jr. all of Sumter.

LEXINGTON – Mary Eleanor Harrington Coffey, 86, widow of Edgar Stuart Coffey, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014, Lexington Extended Care.
Born July 7, 1928, in Manning, she was the daughter of the late Hervey Burton Harrington and the late Hattie Crick Harrington. She was a member of the Red Hatters and a member and spirited singer at Union United Methodist Church of Irmo.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas M. “Tom” Coffey (Kathryn) of Atlanta, GA and Richard Alan Coffey of Lexington; a brother, “Polly” Harrington of Woodruff; three grandchildren; and two great grandsons.

Tim Scott’s year is shaping up to be busy.
Our state’s junior senator stopped by the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce Tuesday afternoon for an informal meet and greet as part of a listening tour.
After County Council Chairman Dwight Stewart welcomed him, Scott told the small crowd that 2014 was busy and he expects next year to be even busier. His committee assignments will be: Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; and the Committee on Finance.

When Sen. Tim Scott arrived Tuesday afternoon at the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, he first wanted to wish Mayor Julia Nelson a full recovery from her recent kidney transplant surgery in Charleston.
“A kidney transplant is a big deal,” Scott said. “May the Lord bless her with good health. I’m a very big fan of Matthew 8:17, which says Jesus himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses and through his strength we can be healed.”
With a good surgeon and the blessings of the Lord, Mayor Nelson should have a “fantastic recovery,” Scott said.

A 42-year-old Manning man posted a $25,000 surety bond on Monday on a charge of second-degree assault and battery, according to records at the Clarendon County Detention Center.
George Dimitriadis of 1155 McKenzie Road in Manning turned himself into deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, an employee with the jail said. He was granted and posted bond the same day.
According to reports, Dimitriadis is accused the Dec. 23 assault of a 46-year-old Manning man at Mariachi’s on A.M. Nash Road in Manning.

Manning High Coach Stevie Ward sent in this picture, which shows boys and girls of the Manning High School basketball program attending High School Day Dec. 21 at the University of South Carolina’s Colonial Life Arena in Columbia. The students and coaching staff received free admission to a game between USC and Coker College. The primary goal of the MHS basketball program, Ward said, is to give every player the opportunity to secure a scholarship to attend an accredited college or university. He said High School Day helps maximize the students’ “life skills” through the game of basketball.

Linda Collins Watts, 60, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Born October 14, 1954, in Lake City, she was the daughter of the late David Collins and the late Dalphine Miles Collins. She was a retired supervisor with the Florence County Disabilities & Special Needs Board.
She is survived by two daughters, Angel McClary and Tracy Welch (Reece), both of Manning; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and three sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Sterling Price officiating.
